The law moves

Indian criminal law changed substantially on 1 July 2024, when the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act. Judgments continue to interpret them. Material here is written to be accurate at the time of writing; it is not a live statement of the law on the day you read it.
